The Eliza Brewster Most Improved Player Award celebrates a life lived fully, a generous friend, and the joy Eliza brought to the Birds rugby family.

Her story

Always true to herself

Eliza was a medical student at Birmingham from 2021 to 2025. She loved her family, her friends, running, skiing, wild swimming, travelling and adventuring - and she really loved being part of the Birds rugby team.

The Birds were her rugby family. When she came to Birmingham she was new to rugby and, in her own words, was not exactly a natural. She decided she wanted to be good and put the work in: asking questions, turning up to training and giving it her all.

By fourth year, Eliza was starting on the Nams team and scored her first try in February 2025. She was loyal, encouraging, fun, full of hugs and laughter, and always brought joy and enthusiasm with her.

The award

Most Improved Player

Eliza was delighted when, in 2024, she was awarded Most Improved Player. This cup commemorates her, her happy time with the Birds, and the determination, warmth and spirit she shared with everyone around her.

Forever remembered

For Eliza

Eliza lived her short life to the full, grabbed every opportunity available and made people smile. This page is a small tribute to that joy.
